PRESIDENT’S REPORT
March Special Report 2020 from
Jerry Pyfer
Special Report
NWI Chapter meetings have been annulled or cancelled due to weather for
the most part. This is the first time a Chapter meeting was annulled due
to a nationwide outbreak of a virus.
The coronavirus has taken the nation and world hostage calling for Federal and State leaders to make drastic measures in hopes of slowing the effects of the disease.
State Governors have issued guidelines to cancel gatherings. As these measures take hold, local political leaders have asked local cooperation by limiting gathers to those only absolutely necessary.
St. Mark’s Church, location of our chapter meetings, has informed their membership that the church is going as far as to cancel church worship services and all other gatherings until further notice. This is unheard of. Local restaurants and bars are even closed to dine-in customers.
Major sporting events and all major league activities have fallen to the disease.
I initiated email conversations with the Board of Directors’ concerning the track this Chapter should take going forward. We had several great alternative ideas which deserve your consideration.
We were in mutual agreement to cancel the
March and April NWI meetings since we have no idea how long the virus
will be a national challenge.
Lloyd Rinehart offered we look at rescheduling at least one meeting to
our off month of June.
Should the church have a prior June commitment, Jason Leverton has offered
a location in DeKalb. I kind of like having two road shows. This will
give our Chicago area membership an easier trip to a meeting for a change.
This could also be a day to railfan the DeKalb area before the meeting.
Keep calm and carry on.
