NWI
CHAPTER
PRESIDENT’S REPORT
June 2020 from
Jerry Pyfer
The Chapter has received our 50th
anniversary certificate from the National Railway Historical Society.
Thank you to all those fellows and ladies instrumental in getting the
North Western Illinois Chapter up and going half a century ago. Another
thank you to all of your dedication in maintaining our status as an NRHS
chapter for 50 years.
Over the last few years, three chapter members have been honored with
their 50 year membership pins and personal certificates. This year we
will have a couple more in line for such an honor as well.
Currently, we are in a wait and see situation as to whether the annual
picnic is cleared to go or will stay in the roundhouse.
I want to thank Jon Schwartz for sending a bundle of old newspaper
clippings featuring railroad news and stories from years past. We will
be using many of the old stories that contain NWI area as well as national
news, in future editions of the NWL. …Jerry Pyfer
NWI Golden Anniversary Pins
The NWI Chapter has a limited supply of
“Railph” lapel pins for $5.00 each available now. They will
be on sale at Chapter meetings and events. If it is difficult to attend
a Chapter meeting, you can order them via the Chapter P.O. Box for $5.00
plus $5.00 for shipping and handling. Make your check out to the NWI Chapter.
My Book Update
This next is a shameless plug for my book
Milwaukee Road - Tales of the Racine & Southwestern which came out
a year ago April.
First, I thank the many who have purchased a copy. I now have a desire
to get another book published, either: Milwaukee Road - The Rest of the
Story which will complete the first book with many leftover stories, photographs
and what these lines look like today or Illinois Central Gulf - Freeport
and Amboy Districts which will be my time on the ICG from 1978 to 1982
and thru today. These books would be done with the same layout design
as Tales.
To do so will require the sales of a few more Tales books first. Thus,
I am now offering the Tales book for $40 plus $5.00 for postage if you
would like it mailed to you.
Railfanning is…spotting the Milwaukee Road boxcar
in the 1978 movie “Grease” starring Olivia Newton John and
John Trivolta and filmed in Los Angeles.
