The May 8 th joint meet made one thing stand out quite clear, the images projected by our digital projector were quite dark.

This can be attributed to one thing, our present Sharp XR-20X projector does not have the power to do a good job. Our current projector was made in 2005, an ancient projector by today’s standards.

The strength of light emitted from bulbs are known as lumens, today’s vernacular for candle power. For those of us familiar with the Kodak Carousel slide projectors, there were two bulb settings on the Ektagraphic projectors, dim and bright. Most projector bulbs were 300 watt bulbs.

Our Sharp unit is rated at 2,300 lumens, with a newer bulb which will fade over usage. Today’s scanned slides and digital photograph resolutions require greater lumens. A minimum of 4,000 lumens is required whereas 5,000 is considered good.

The chapter acquiring a new digital projector was on the agenda until the pandemic hit last year. The joint meeting shown us that we can do a combined virtual and in person meeting, a better projector will go a long way to improve those programs. One other thing, these projectors are NOT cheap.

Mail Service Survey Results

Subscriber Bill Eley shared the news of a very delayed April newsletter. I had heard such problems from others. Thus, I asked NWL recipients to report when they received the June 2021 issue.

The result: Eleven NWLs in the immediate region (Rockford, Chicago, Dixon, Milwaukee), received the NWL in two days. Oklahoma received their NWL in four days. Missouri received their NWL in five days.

All things considered, not too bad.

NWI August Program

The NWI Chapter meeting for August 28th will return to the Oregon, Illinois depot. More information will come in the August NWL.

But for now, there will be a combined theme for this gathering. Last year, we would have commemorated the 50 th anniversary of the Burlington Northern merger, that didn’t happen. This year is the 50th anniversary of Amtrak.

Thus this year’s theme is your choice of the BN and/or Amtrak. BN material must have been shot after the March 1970 merger date. 20 shots max.

For more information about the Chapter, see Meetings and Join.
